Rain on our Parade

Our last couple of days in Custer were gray and soggy.  Sunday night a circulating rain event arrived, and it didn’t leave for three days.  We had planned another fishing trip or two, a drive up the Needles Highway, the annual fall Volksmarch at Crazy Horse and maybe another elk-spotting expedition.  Sadly, we didn’t get to do much more than look out the window.  If it wasn’t raining, we mostly saw clouds hanging at tree-top level and puddles that were knee-deep to a dog. (All three of ours thought this was a wonderful thing and went splashing through them at every opportunity!)

We did go out to eat a couple of times with our friends, which was a treat.  In addition to great conversation, we had very nice steaks and some killer pizza.

Wednesday morning there was a brief break in the weather and the sunshine on the hills was glorious.

We said goodbye to Rick and Linda, and the four of us pulled out, bound eastward.  We had a great time in the two weeks we spent hanging out together, and look forward to seeing them again this winter in Texas.
